Kentucky, “The Bluegrass state”

Welcome to Kentucky, “The Bluegrass state”. Kentucky is located in the south central United States west of the Appalachian Mountains.

The state prides itself in the production of some of the country’s best tobacco, horses and whiskey.

It is also a farmer’s paradise and produces high levels of corn, wheat, fruits, cattle and dairy products.

The seasons of Kentucky

Because of the state’s location, the weather in Kentucky is typically mild and moderate.

The seasons of the year are very distinct, in the spring, the legendary bluegrass fields’ glow and the trees begin to bloom, in the summer, the trees are in full bloom making the state lush in vegetation. The fall, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful times of the year.

The trees and the foliage begin glowing with shades of red, orange and yellow. It is truly a wonder of nature. Winters in state begin in December. With low temperatures averaging 23 degrees, the state becomes a winter wonderland with cold temperatures, snow and sometimes ice.

Kentucky and Horses

Some of Kentucky’s major attractions include the Kentucky Derby, a horse race held annually in Louisville on the first Saturday of May. It is the first leg of the American Triple Crown, followed by the Preakness Stakes, then the Belmont Stakes.

Typically, you will see visitors from all over the world attending this event, to include the rich and famous and anyone else who enjoys betting on the horses.

The Kentucky Derby is also notorious for being one of the biggest fashion extravaganzas of the year where celebrities and attendees dress to impress in a way that can only be seen on this special day!

Lexington, The Horse Capital of The World

Many consider Lexington, Kentucky the horse capital of the world. Surrounding the city are large stretches of pastureland and horse farms filled with stallions and fillies.

On Lexington’s northern edge, the Keeneland racecourse provides everyone with the opportunity to experience races and live auctions. In the heart of Lexington is the University of KY, home of one of the perennially best college basketball teams in the nation and a gorgeous campus. Lexington is well worth a visit.

Kentucky and Bourbon

The State is also famous for producing some of the finest bourbon in the world. There are 15 stops on the Kentucky Bourbon tour. Barton 1792 Distillery was stablished in 1879 and continues today as the oldest fully operating in Bardstown, KY.

The legendary Maker’s Mark distillery offers free tours of the facility as well as complimentary tasting of the award winning products made here, you will definitely be able to get and up-close and personal look to one of the most famous bourbon distilleries in the world.

Hodgenville

Hodgenville, Kentucky is home to the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Park. For over a century, people from around the world have come to rural Central Kentucky to honor the humble beginnings of our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. His early life on Kentucky’s frontier shaped his character and prepared him to lead the nation through Civil War.

Mammoth Cave

Mammoth Cave is a U.S. national park in central State. Mammoth Cave is a long cave system of chambers and subterranean passages.

The cave is truly a unique and peculiar place; many say it resembles an underground labyrinth.

Popular Sites include the Frozen Niagara section, known for its waterfall-like formations, and Gothic Avenue, with its ceiling covered in 19th century visitor’s signatures.

Tours to the caves are offered throughout the year as well as hiking, canoeing on the Green river, horseback riding, camping and more.

As a result; there is so much to see in this beautiful state. Arts and crafts are very much a part to the culture; we are rich in history and possess some of the most beautiful scenery you will ever see.
